How much will I get paid?
-
It depends on the quantity and quality of traffic that your website generates.
Traffic from third world countries costs little because their surfers do not
spend as much as Americans.
The same applies if your traffic consists of kids or people who do not shop online.
The amount you'll make also depends on the advertising program that you are running. Some of them pay you per click, others for a thousand impressions...
I live outside of the US. Can I still make money?
-
In most cases, yes, as long as your web site is in English.
Some affiliate programs accept sites in languages other than English.
Cashing checks is likely to be your primary setback if you don't live in the
West.
Note that many programs support PayPal.
Pop-ups and Pop-unders
These are two relatively aggressive ways of profiting from your traffic.
Every time a visitor enters or leaves your web site, a window with the ad pops
up.
Pop-unders are a smarter version of this, where the advert opens under the
active browser window.
Pop-up traffic is relatively cheap and often hated by surfers.
You profit on CPM basis or for every 1000 impressions.
PPC (Pay-Per-Click)
In PPC, an advertiser pays for each unique visitor that clicks on his banner.
CTR is the ratio of clicks compared to the total number of impressions.
If it's higher, more visitors have been enticed by the advert.
Webmasters employ different ads, related to their web site's niche in order to
make effective use of their traffic.
The primary advantage of big PPC programs is that they have a large number of
advertisers and publishers.
Because of this, publishers can tempt you with a different advert even if you
visit their web site twice in a row.
On the other hand, advertisers can get (almost) an unlimited amount of quality
traffic by displaying their product across web sites visited by potential
buyers.

-
Put the banner in a highly visible place. Keep in mind how your visitor scrolls the window. Banners are usually more successful on the right, next
to the scroll bar.
-
Make small pages. Keep the total number of links on each page to a minimum.
-
Use more than one banner format across your web site. Make sure you also change
their position, rather than using one template only.
-
Integrate the ad into your design. It should not look like something foreign.
-
Do not put banners on your index page.
